The IPO Buzz: HCM III Acquisition (HCMAU) Raises $220 Million

First SPAC to debut in August 2025: HCM III Acquisition Corp. (HCMAU) priced its SPAC IPO in sync with the terms in the prospectus – 22 million units at  $10.00 each – and raised $220 million on Thursday night, July 31, 2025. HCM III Acquisition Corp. (HCMAU) started trading today – Friday, Aug. 1, 2025 – at $10.05 – up 5 cents from its SPAC IPO price – at 10:56 a.m. EDT on the NASDAQ on volume of about 2.19 million. In the run-up toward noon EDT on Friday, HCM III Acquisition (HCMAU) rose to $10.07 – up 7 cents for the day so far. HCM III Acquisition Corp. (HCMAU) closed at $10.09 – up 9 cents or 0.9 percent – on Friday, Aug. 1, 2025, its first day of NASDAQ trading.

Each unit consists of one share of stock and one-third of one redeemable warrant, according to the prospectus.

Cantor was the sole book-runner.

This SPAC’s top management includes a former Cantor CEO and a former Cantor co-COO of capital markets.

Shawn Matthews, chairman and CEO of HCM III Acquisition Corp. (HCMAU), is the founder and chief investment officer of Hondius Capital Management, whose initials – HCM – are the brand that’s part of this SPAC’s name. Matthews previously was the CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald & Co. from 2009 to 2018, the prospectus said. He founded Hondius Capital Management, an alternative investment firm, in 2019.

Steven Bischoff, president and CFO of HCM III Acquisition Corp. (HCMAU), is the chief operating officer (COO) of Hondius Capital Management. From 2003 through 2007, Bischoff worked for Cantor Fitzgerald, where he was hired as the head of fixed income trading and later promoted to co-COO of capital markets, the prospectus said.

HCM III Acquisition Corp. (HCMAU), based in Stamford, Connecticut, will  concentrate its search for an acquisition target on technology and software infrastructure companies whose products and services target financial services firms as well as real estate and asset management companies, the prospectus said. HCM III Acquisition is incorporated in the Cayman Islands.
